Have you ever self-published an e-book? Did you make your first sale, brimming with excitement? Maybe you received a notification of your first review, only to find that the reader couldn't be bothered with reading your work because there were just too many grammatical errors. You're a storyteller, not an English teacher.
Have you been working on a blog, hoping that you can make a living writing it? I'm sure you are extremely passionate about the subject of your blog! Maybe you make an amazing lemon lavender cheesecake, but you can't remember if it's "there lavender" or "their lavender." It could be that you have a wealth of knowledge about homesteading and making your own butter, but you didn't get a degree in journalism.
Have you been looking for a job, handing out your resume for months? Maybe you just need another pair of eyes to look over that resume and make sure there aren't any mistakes that might make you look less than qualified.
Or maybe you're finishing up a research paper and you simply need someone to check it for errors.
There are numerous reasons why a person might need a certified proofreader. And that's what I'm here for. I'm Abigail Pence and I love the English language. I read everything from the back of the shampoo bottle (got to read something while I'm in the shower) to mystery novels, fantasy, romance, classic literature, and plays. I am addicted to the written word, and there is nothing I love so much as reading content and perfecting it! I've been proofreading for my friends and family for years; now I proofread professionally making manuscripts, social media posts, business marketing materials, and resumes shine.
After realizing that I could make a living out of my hobby of correcting everyone's grammar (mostly in my head, promise...), I took Caitlin Pyle's course, General Proofreading: Theory and Practice, and learned that I don't know everything about grammar after all. But what I do know is that I love learning about it! I love to research grammar rules, I have an eye for misspellings and proper word choices, I am armed with the Chicago Manual of Style and the Unabridged Merriam-Webster, and I would love to start PROOFREADING FOR YOU.

"Self publishing' is not as easy as it is portrayed! When you think you have finished your book, proofread, proofread again, and again, and again. Don't believe it is ready until you have a hard copy proofed!"
